Harmony 5 began in 1992 with five inspired individuals who loved to sing. Their love for music originated at home, where, growing up, they would sing together as a family at mealtimes and in their spare time. In singing together, the family became known as the Hostetler Family Singers. In 1991, their mother became ill with an extended illness, preventing the family from singing together. As a result, four of the original family members: Danny, Duane, Darlene (Miller), and Daryl Hostetler, along with David Miller, formed a new group called Harmony 5. One of the primary goals of this group is to compose original songs that portray the testimonies of the individuals who wrote them. Their debut album, Praise and Harmony, was a collection of old and new hymns and spiritual songs, four of which were written by group and family members. I'll Cast My Crown, by Martha Hostetler (mother), was written in memory of her dear daughter-in-law who is now with her Savior. This song expresses their desire to meet their Father in heaven, along with all their loved ones gone before. All of the songs on their second album, Home Sweet Home "Originals," were written and composed by group and family members. I Believe tells the story of Jesus' journey to the cross and ends with the hope of His soon return to earth to take home His bride!
As time moves on Harmony 5 as with many groups has seen some changes, members leave and members are added. In fact, we may sometimes be considered Harmony 4, 5, or 6. Even more recently Harmony 5 has taken on yet another facet. As folks know well, families grow and the Lord blesses with children. As a result, Harmony 5 Generation 2 was established to carry on the local tradition of family harmony. Harmony 5 Generation 2 was formed in the fall of 2010 to continue the local tradition of family harmony, composing and producing of Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs for the edification of the Body of Christ. Members of the original Harmony 5 group are somewhat separated by geographical location and by growing family and community responsibilities. These changes have made it somewhat difficult to continue the singing tradition, so as a family we decided to continue with the new group. Generation Two is in its infancy stage, and has not yet produced any recordings. We hope to make one in the future. With our own in-house digital recording studio, the project becomes more of a reality amid dauntingly busy schedules. Pray for us!
Wherever the Lord leads us, we will follow and our goal is always to bless, encourage, and inspire the Body of Christ.
